Wildlife Surveys
Recording wildlife is essential to establishing what biodiversity we have and monitoring how population levels of species are fluctuating locally. The data gathered by wildlife professionals as well as members of the public is used to decide where and when to take conservation action.

Wildlife data is also the basis for determining which habitats and species are priorities for the Durham area and thus included within the Biodiversity Action Plan. Knowledge of species population levels or area of habitats also allows us to set specific targets and actions to help with the conservation of these.

Do something positive for biodiversity and take part in one of our wildlife surveys. Durham Biodiversity Partnership runs one specific survey each year, details of which can be found below. However we are interested in sightings all priority species so if you spot something interesting please fill in one of occasional record forms.

The information you provide will contribute towards helping biodiversity action in your area.

All data from public surveys is entered onto the Durham Wildlife Trust's Recorder database and will form the basis of a new Regional Wildlife Record Centre. In the meantime you can view map-based summary information here.
