It has recently been raised that the bird species currently covered by Durham and Northumberland Priority lists do not reflect all Birds of Conservation Concern including some Red list species. A workshop was held in February to review the priority species lists for the previous Durham and Northumberland Biodiversity Action Plans. This resulted in the removal of some species that were either no longer a conservation concern or mainly concentrated within the uplands. The group then assessed current IUCN red/amber list and UK Priority species to look at whether there were any species that were currently not covered by local priorities. As a result a further 27 species were added to the Northumberland priority list and 32 species added to the Durham list.
